Future Prospects for Particleboard

The search for abundant and inexpensive adhesives is a crucial factor in the development of particleboard production. Therefore, the effective utilization of forest resources and pulping waste liquor is receiving increasing attention. Tannin-formaldehyde adhesives and sulfite pulp waste liquor adhesives have been successfully used as adhesives, and inorganic adhesives made from cement, gypsum, etc., are also being applied. Even more attractive are new adhesive-free bonding technologies, whose emergence will fundamentally transform the particleboard industry.

 

As for particleboard itself, its oriented strand structure is significantly superior to random strand structures in terms of mechanical properties, making it a viable alternative to plywood and even some sawn boards, thus showing great promise. Surface finishing of particleboard will also see the emergence of more new materials and processes, and may potentially form an independent emerging industrial category through the specialization of prefabricated multi-variety and multi-functional decorative materials.
